I disagree. More bandwidth will mean you can have a less capable machine locally and still accomplish the same task using remote services professionally maintained. You won't need as rich a PC on your desk.

CEO Michael Dell on Internet Business in Japan: Comment
By Minoru Matsutani

Tokyo, March 27 (Bloomberg) -- Dell Computer Corp. Chief
Executive Officer Michael Dell comments on expectations for
Internet business opportunities in Japan. Dell made the comments
as keynote speaker at the Digital Opportunity Forum in Tokyo. Dell
Computer is the biggest direct seller of personal computers in the
U.S.

On growth in Internet businesses in Japan:
``I believe that Japan is ideally positioned for Internet
ventures and starters, partially because of the large population
of intellectuals and wealthier (people), also because of the
previously slow rate of change around information technology.'

On Japanese business customs:
``Certainly in Japan, we have a market that requires a close
relationship with the customer. Japanese business is more closed
than other business models.' ``Fortunately, the list of our
customers is heavily (weighted in) venture companies and I think
these companies are sort of resisting the traditional Japanese
way.'

On PCs and other small devices such as cellular phones:
``Bicycles and cars haven't replaced each other, and I think
small handheld devices are like bicycles, PCs are like cars.'
