I don't trade the SPY/QQQ shares much anymore (and not since QQQ split last Mon), but 1/2 pt B/A spread is common. at crazy times can be a lot more. I recall if it ever got down to 1/8 I was pretty amazed. certainly nothing close to what GZ is saying is typical spread for SP futures.

none of the tracking stocks follow the uptick short rule, but that's really much less a concern than finding the shares to short.

I'm pretty satisfied trading SPX options for now. I can't see myself trading futures contracts, but I might be interested, after some time, on the options on SP futures (perhaps :-)
