Scumbria - RE: "This message is being sent to you by Winchip, which proves that most people have lots more CPU power than they need."

No, it proves you are unwilling to upgrade to a more modern CPU. ;)

I have a K6-2 400 and it feels slow sometimes. I'm gonna upgrade soon.

Hello Scumbria,

re: This message is being sent to you by Winchip, which proves that most people have lots more CPU power than they need.

I was only expressing a little pride in AMD's fine products in particular their processor. I didn't mean to slight or belittle anyone posting on a less capable platform. BTW one of my greater surprises using the Athlon at work was the increased speed it delivered when browsing the web. At work we have a microwave link to a T1. Everyone comments on how much faster web performance is. I personally was amazed at this increased performance as I did not anticipate such an increase. When connecting through a modem one does not observe any increase, a Winchip is sufficient.

Kindest regards,
CrazyMan

Hello Scumbria,

After talking about the Athlon and performance observations when using a modem, I stumbled across a fellow who just completed his first Athlon system build. He adds the following in his comments:

Most surprising - the damn Winmodem I had laying around and threw in for testing connects at 53.3k 80% of the time - I have never seen that done, and I believe it's accurate. It's the theoretical maximum number, which I thought was impossible to get to.

Maybe the Athlon does more than we thought.

Kindest regards,
