The article did add that future talks would not be ruled out
Do you think that the gov't would submit a counter proposal???

JF3, I know that there are two more days left, and you're right that it makes sense for the govt to hold out for more. Perhaps there is still some hope, but it appeared to me that the DOJ found nothing of value in the MSFT proposals; indicating to me that no matter what MSFT offers in the way of business concessions, the "Justice" lawyers will reject. I just have the feeling now that the DOJ lawyers want to keep this pet project of theirs going for awhile longer.

If you were one of the govt lawyers, and you had the options to a) Continue with a high-drama high-stakes case, or b) End it now and be faced with reassignment onto some insurance fraud case with some ho-hum I-forgot-two-seconds-after-I-was-told-the-company-name company; which would you choose?

I would probably choose to continue with the high-drama fight with DOJ vs. MSFT. TPJ is probably also relishing the prospect of the next phase of the trial, where he gets to play God in handing down the punishement.

P.S. - TPJ will probably, in his foot-notes to one of his next rulings, declare Bill Gates to be a Satanist. And why not? He may as well burn his glory light bright while the oil is there in the lamp.

with the judge openly and blatantly anti-msft there is NO pressure on the govt to settle. sad that a single (and in this case ignorant) judge can hold so much sway over american business. i have a minimal understanding of the legal process---can msft push this to the supreme court where odds are a group of judges are apt to make a better decision? i recognize there is a cost to msft for dragging this out but i don't see judge jackson & the govt agreeing to a reasonable msft settlement offer

I agree with your comment. This will go down to the wire, I do expect a settlement by Monday night.
