Visited my local Wal-mart yesterday to see how titles were selling.

Smackdown and WM2K were both sold out. In fact, I only saw WM2K back for one week or so after Christmas. I know Smackdown had an initial shipment of 80 to this particular store, because I got one of the first copies. A fine game, and was glad to see that THQ is going to use Yukes for future WWF games rather than PCP&L.

Everything else was very slow. Little traffic, and not a lot of interest in what was there. Used to be piles of kids waiting to play the in store system all the time.

Saw ECW games in the case for the first time - both N64 and PSX. Neither appears to be selling much.

The 2nd Rugrats PSX game has already been discounted to $29.95 - doesn't look like that one is going to make it to greatest hits status.

Following AKLM and EIDOS's announcements of weak sales, it appears we are very lucky to have the WWF to generate sales in a very weak market right now. I stand by my guess that BF and company will use Q1 and Q2 to clean the pipeline and balance sheet for the fall releases. Hopefully they will be able to leverage the success of WWF to get concessions from Sony, Sega, and Nintendo, as well as generate some good quality hits on the new platforms.

Other game companies without a monster license like the WWF are likely going to generate losses for the next few quarters. I'd be careful in buying any of them.

Tomb Raider Finds a New Home

Eidos hands over the reigns of its ambitious Tomb Raider Game Boy Color project to THQ.

I haven't seen this posted yet. Previews of this game have been very favorable. This could be a very nice GBC license.
