US authorities likely to throw out Microsoft antitrust proposal
Washington--Mar 26--Microsoft's proposal to settle an antitrust
lawsuit has been dismissed by federal officials as inadequate, US media
reported Sunday. The giant software maker, whose Windows operating
system runs on 9 out of 10 the world's personal computers, on Friday
faxed a last-ditch proposal to the US Justice Department and the 19
states involved in the case, but it was found lacking because Microsoft
failed to acknowledge any antitrust wrongdoings or agree to significant
restrictions in the way it develops and markets Windows. (Story .10307)
