Hi all - some tidbit on CoreTek in Mass High Tech [a weekly newsletter.]

boston.com

but the full article is not available on the net. Here is an excerpt of information not seen before

Mumford
[head of Nortel's optical networks unit]said that Nortel's team had developed a "first-generation" tunable laser, but that CoreTek's "second-generation" lasers can lock into a steady wavelength as they move over variable distances and temperatures without deteriorating, an important characteristic for reliable newtworks.

...

CoreTek's components are designed to operate in 10 Gigabits per second (Gbps) systems, the speed that Nortel has made the standard for today's optical internet. Mumford said that with this acquisition, Nortel has assembled 90 percent of the 10 Gbps structure-producing companies it needs to be self-reliant.

best, Bosco
