Does anyone know what happens if MSFT settles after a ruling from the judge. Can the verdict still be used in private litigation?
If it can, you can bet that a possibility of settlement afterwards is nil.

t2 -- I would expect it to hold a large portion of gains made on any settlement agreements as we are going into good earnings too.
Any bad news would be a great time to bail only to come back,, but doubtful there will be the time. Expect bad news to come afterhours and the open to be even lower than 30 minutes later as those in a panic bail and cooler heads pick up the bargain..

FWIW,

It appears that Tuesday is really weighing on your mind. You are asking questions that surely you know, none of us can answer. You speak of "calls, puts, depends, just talking about trading opportunities and not investing". I think we have another case of MDPS hitting a thread member.

May I recommend buying a straddle. Then sit down in a comfortable lazy boy with a nice Chardonnay listening to Enya. Exhale and just let all your worries fade away. The decision is beyond your control.

But, to be a little more serious, if you have that deer caught in the headlight feel, and must do something then a straddle may take the edge off. If you hold a large number of shares you could simply buy some short term insurance in the form of April puts. The key is to do whatever you think is right for you and your portfolio before the deal/decision is announced. Once it happens, there is little guarantee that you will be able to take advantage of the compressed volatility...and you should be aware that a decision/deal of this magnitude is unlikely to come out during market hours.

Regards,
