Re: I didn't know IBM had a division setting up websites. What kind of websites do you design?

Global Services. I make websites for the AS/400, which is in my opinion the most reliable computer I've ever come across. We use a product called net.commerce for the sites. So far, I've been doing the DB conversion and some SET stuff.

IBM is moving heavily into being a services and software oriented company. It seems to me like they don't really care about hardware any more. They don't state this, but their actions lead me to this view. For IBM's sake, I hope this is their view, there is going to be a fundamental paradigm shift with respect to servers over the next 2 years. I'm not sure we can compete with the more nimble competitors. Margins are razor thin in hardware anyway.

Take a look at the Enron deal. We let SUNW sell them $350 million worth of servers and I'm sure it was a low price to get the deal. Then, we turn around and sign a $300 million dollar service contract with Enron, for very high margins. I think that is the way IBM will operate in the future.
