don, cost cutting does not necessarily increase productivity - that is where most folks are confused and misled by the political manipulators.

if free linux and free linux based apps were to totally replace msft products then efficiency would greatly increase but productivity would drop.

why? businesses pay nothing for what used to cost billions - efficiency is increased. however, revenues for msft dropped off the planet and were not replaced with anything. gdp drops (relative to what it would have been) and productivity drops (nat'l output).

taking money from peter and giving it to paul can greatly increase efficency but doesn't do diddly for productivity in the macro sense.

i think alan.com has microproductivity confused with macroproductivity. it probably isn't a mistake. he probably has done so on purpose b/c it is in his self interest to do so. otherwise, he would lose his intellectual "foundation" (there is no practical foundation) that supports the chained dollar crap this govt created.
