GR, It certainly has, which is why i unloaded a large portion in the 70's recently. I was fortunate to pick up more ETEK and SDLI on the dips. LU will lose a fair number of people, but most of the optical people are in areas of the country that are not presently populated by a large number of start-ups. It will be interesting if we see LU staffed efforts spring up. tp

Hi Greg & all - it is a vicious cycle. The lower the stock price, the more expensive the acquisition, the less the acquisition, the lower the stock price... It was rumored that LU had delayed the ASND acquisition b/c of the pummeling stock price. Well, to be fair, NT has had her shares until she pulled out of the slum. So, LU can do the same, if it can reinvent itself - and do it quickly. The problem is that turning a supertanker is a difficult thing, so I suppose its decision to spin off its slow growing divisions is a step in the right direction. Still, corporate culture is a difficult thing. Here, one thing seldom mention about NT's acquisition of BAY. Not only did she inherit BAY's datanetworking expertise, but also she has absorbed and assimilated some of the SV culture. Right now, technologies aside, from the business perspective, it appears to me that NT has managed to bring together the best of the two worlds, namely, structural integrity of old corporation and the individual creativities of the new acquisitions. Whether LU can do so, it is anyone's guess.

best, Bosco
