Why does INTC shy away from basic research that other big companies do, such as IBM and MOT? Instead, they use their inflated stock to buy research (other companies). BTW, for the 7th year in a row, IBM was granted the most patents.

Did you guys read that in 1999 AMD actually filed more patents than INTC? How does an $8 billion company out patent a $500 billion company? It seems to me this should never happen.
