RESEARCH ALERT-Merrill starts Palm

NEW YORK, March 27 (Reuters) - Merrill Lynch said analyst
Michael Chinng on Monday started coverage of Palm Inc.
<PALM.O> with a near-term accumulate, long-term buy
rating and a 12 to 18-month price target of $65 per share.

-- said Palm stock is trading at 17 to 19 times fiscal 2001
revenues, but below the 27 to 29 times range of wireless
data pure-play Research In Motion Ltd. <RIMM.O>.

-- said Palm's multiple could expand as its wireless presence
increases. -- on March 2, Palm sold 26.5 million shares in
its initial public offering at $32 per share.

-- said Palm's share price will be linked to parent company
3Com Corp.'s <COMS.O> through August and said the arbitrage
between the two stocks could push Palm lower, 3Com higher,
or both.

-- said Palm is the dominant brand in handheld Internet
appliances and the company should be able to leverage the
powerful Palm Economy (users, developers, and partners)
for an important role in the wireless data industry.

-- said competition will intensify in the coming months as
Research In Motion, Intel Corp. <INTC.O>, Microsoft Corp.
<MSFT.O>, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. <05930.KS> and the
Symbian partners introduce wired, wireless, and smartphone
products.

I was wondering when you were going to get tired of that stuff. Lotta folks seem to go through that stage. Scrapps got kicked into SI jail, what? 3 times before he mellowed out.

Personally, I'm just here to make friends and spread joy.
