Elmer, DEC was a case of the walking dead with a valuable portfolio. Intel was ripping them off, figuring it was a walking dead, and DEC sued...as a negotiating tactic...and Intel countersued...as a negotiating tactic and AMD got all it needed, so did Intel and CPQ. I am sure Intel wanted a lock on the the DEC treasures.....they lost bigtime.....Athlon is the result.
As to conspiracy theories? Apparently you have little experience in the boardroom as there is a lot of strategic espionage in the semi business, spy, counterspy, counter counter spy etc and this shows as tactics.
Do you think Ramboost(as in a shoplifter is a booster) was not engaged in a strategic maneuver when they left the Jedec standards group?.....if not, I have some magic beans.....cheap.
