There are a lot of salvos being fired back and forth between the IMG and AMSC boards on Yahoo. Unfortunately, most of it is "my stock is better than your stock" kind of stuff. Neither company is saying much for obvious reasons. I contend that right now, there is really no way to tell who has the upper hand with regard to technology. The only way to know for sure is to have worked on the inside with both companies. We are also very smug to think that there are only two companies in the world working on this technology. What about the Germans ? What about the Japanese ? I tend to stay with IMG for the following reasons:
1. I've been in the stock since 1984 and I am biased
2. Glenn Epstein is FINALLY giving this company direction and MARKET FOCUS.
3. IMG knows how to profitably take technology to the manufacturing floor.
4. Nearly 30 years in the superconductivity business. If these guys haven't learned something in this amount of time they are pretty dumb.
5.IMG knows how to manage the balance sheet and income statement. (No matter what some 25 year old day-trader tells you, this still matters in the long run.)
6. IMG has been burned many times and knows the problems with taking this technology to the marketplace.
I picked this company 16 years ago as my "homerun" company for the non mutual fund money. I have been through many ups and downs with it but I do think it will pay off over the next 3 to 5 years. I just hope they don't get bought out for $35 or $40 a share and turn my homerun into a foul ball. :-)
