The 3.5 hours standby time for the Ericcson phone is troubling. The Q sat phone for G* (which I assume is now Kyocera) lists the following:

Mode, Talk Time, Standby Time
CDMA digital (IS-95), 4.5 hours 72 hours
AMPS analog (IS-41), 2.5 hours 14 hours
Globalstar satellite, 3.5 hours 9 hours

I guess you keep a spare battery, and your ok.

Tero, where did you get new info on Ericcson standby time?

I know several sources for published specs on E-phone

G* N.Europe says E-phone G* standby time is 1.5 hour with "slim" battery; 2.5 hrs with "high performance" battery;

globalstar.fi

TESAM says it's 6 hours and 10 hours, respectively, as does GLP home site.

tesam.com

and,

globalstar.com

According to "Globalstar Atlantic" the new Telit phone will have 24 hour sat mode standby time.

martel.is

The existing Qualcomm mobile is said to have nine hours, btw

globalstar.com

<<Which means that this is not a phone in the traditional sense of the word - it's a device
you can use to make phone calls, not receive them.>>

Well, absent a car (or boat) kit, I agree with this statement...and it's not news. All the G* phones have the unfortunate feature that they only receive calls when a rather cumbersome antenna is unfolded. Not many people will spend hours a day walking around with the phone in such a mode on the off chance that someone will call them, when they could check their voice mail every couple hours or as often as their sense of self importance dictates.
