Both TSMC (2330) and UMC (2303) will reach record sales in March, according to local mass media. TSMC's Mar. sales might reach NT$10bn, up 12% from NT$9bn in Feb. UMC's Mar. sales might come in at NT$7bn, up 11% mom. Their sales were in-line with our expectations.

United Microelectronics Corp. rose 1.7 percent as it
posted record monthly sales of more than NT$7 billion ($228
million) this month
, the Economic Daily News reported.

UMC also said yesterday it received orders from U.S.-based
Xilinx Corp. to make programmable logic chips. It will provide
details at a press conference today.
``Electronics shares are backed by strong fundamentals,'
said Jerry Chou, manager of Core Pacific Securities Investment
Trust Co.'s NT$3 billion ($98 million) Small-Cap Fund. Chou plans
to buy computer memory chipmakers today.
