Petz - Re: "There was something in c'T magazine reported by JC or Ace's, not sure which. I believe they said Spitfire was ~100mm, and speculated that it was achieved by a re-layout. Anyone else remember?"

You don't know?

Sheeessshhh - you seemed SO POSITIVE that SpitFarl was smaller than the AthWiper !!

Heck - 100 sq. mm. is essentially the same size !!

How did AMD cram an additional 128 K L2 cache into it without making the die bigger?

And do you think AMD is SANDBAGGING when Drew Praire said SpitFarl was due in mid-year?

Seems kinda late, right?

I guess AMD doesn't want Intel to go out of business - so they are DELAYING the BackFire chip !!!

Re: Spitfire Size....

Hi John,

aceshardware.com

Is the first is a set of posts discussing the (reported) 99mm2 size of Spitfire. I've seen other estimates as large as 114mm2. I suspect there are several versions that have been sampled, from both Dresden and Austin. The 99mm2 reports are more recent - hopefully we'll know for sure very soon!

Regards,

Dan
