Illinois Superconductor Introduces Compact New Superconducting Filter System for 2nd Generation Digital Wireless Networks

MT. PROSPECT, Ill., Mar 28, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Illinois Superconductor Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: ISCO) announced today the introduction of the industry?s smallest superconducting filter product for digital wireless networks. The ATP(TM) Classic occupies only one cubic foot in volume and is only 6.5" tall in a 19" rack frame. The ATP(TM) Classic will employ Stirling engine cryogenic technology. The ATP(TM) Classic is designed to meet the needs of the current second-generation digital systems (2G and 2.5G, including TDMA, CDMA, and GSM) for superior interference rejection to increase capacity and improve end-user call quality. The ATP(TM) Classic combines the industry?s highest performance filter technology with ISC?s revolutionary failure-proof ATP(TM) (all temperature performance) architecture -- which completely eliminates the reliability risk associated with cryogenically cooled systems.

The ATP(TM) Classic is designed for lower power draw (~150 watts input power). In the event of a loss of electrical power, the system retains 80% of the supercooled LNA gain at room temperature, and eliminates the added loss of up to 1.5 dB from mechanical bypass and relay networks required to back-up thin-film superconducting filter products. The compact size and weight (60 lbs. in omni-configuration) allows for one-person installations. The ATP(TM) Classic?s ultimate rejection and intermodulation (IM) performance are superior to those of thin film superconducting products.
