Wonder when DELL will announce theirs! prob wont even mention INIT and CLIC. Boeing, CommerceOne, others to unveil Internet trading hub March 27, 2000 08:48 PM PALO ALTO, Calif., March 27 (Reuters) - Boeing Co. BA , the world's largest aerospace company, Commerce One Inc. CMRC and three other aerospace firms will announce plans on Tuesday for an online hub to process orders for airline parts, an analyst said. "They're setting up a portal that will encompass probably both original equipment and possibly over time replacement aerospace parts as well," said David Garrity, an analyst with Dresdner Kleinwort Benson in New York, who tracks Commerce One and its rival Ariba Inc. ARBA . The announcement -- to be discussed in a conference call with executives from Commerce One, Boeing, BAE Systems Plc , Lockheed Martin Corp. LMT and Raytheon Co. RTN.A RTN.B at 10 a.m. EST Tuesday -- is the latest in a slew of business-to-business exchanges that have been announced in recent months. Already, the three world's biggest automakers are working with Commerce One and its rival Oracle Corp. ORCL to set up an online exchange to help automate the purchase of auto parts. Garrity said the market for airline parts is easily in the hundreds of billions of dollars. Commerce One, Ariba and Oracle are all trying to stake out territory in the still nascent industry of vertical online exchanges. Oracle has announced plans to help set up an online exchange with Sears, Roebuck & Co. and other retailers, as well as a deal to set up an online exchange for convenience stores. "Yet again Commerce One has snatched a piece of real estate from under the nose of Oracle," Garrity said. "Oracle's performance in actually landing these vertical portal wins has been, to date, underwhelming." (( duncan.martell@reuters.com // +1 650 846-5401 ))
