SOYO Announces 1GHz Motherboards For AMD And Intel CPUs

FREMONT, CA, Mar 28, 2000 (INTERNET WIRE via COMTEX) -- SOYO Inc. today announced three new supersonic motherboards, which have been designed to optimize Advanced Micro Devices Inc.'s (AMD) and Intel Corp's new 1GHz CPUs.

SOYO also tested its SY-6BA+IV, SY-6VCA, and SY- 6ICA boards with Intel's 1GHz Pentium III CPU to give system integrators and endusers six 1GHz-compatible SOYO boards. When configured with PC133 SDRAM the SY-6BA+IV provides a cost- effective solution that extends the life of Intel's proven BX chip set technology

New SOYO motherboards designed for 1GHz CPUs will all feature standard SDRAM. Standard features on all new boards will include Ultra DMA 33/66 IDE ports for four IDE devices, a pair of USB ports, two serial ports, one parallel port, and enhanced PC health monitoring.

SOYO customers should not experience any component or peripheral problems when upgrading to super fast 1GHz CPUs. Users can expect to operate the Intel Pentium III at 1GHz with just a normal-sized heatsink and without increasing the core voltage, according to SOYO. The company noted that a BIOS upgrade may be required, which can be downloaded free at SOYO's web site -- www.soyousa.com.

For AMD's new Athlon CPUs, SOYO will ship in April its new SY-K7VIA -- a 200MHz system bus, Slot A-based, ATX footprint system board. The board, designed specifically for AMD's 1GHz CPU's, features VIA's KX 133 AGP chipset.

The SY-K7VIA uses standard SDRAM, expandable to 1.5GB. Expansion slots will include five 32-bit PCI slots, one 16-bit ISA slot, one AGP slot, and one AMR (audio modem riser) slot. List price is $180.00 with volume discounts available.

SOYO will offer two new motherboards ? SY-7VCA ATX footprint ($145.00 MSRP) and SY-7VCM MicroATX footprint ($135.00 MSRP) -- for Intel's 1GHz Pentium III, Socket 370 CPUs. Both feature VIA's 694X chipset, which has selectable front side system bus speeds of 66/100/133 MHz. The boards have also been designed to support SDRAM to give users a more cost-effective memory solution. The SY-7VCA is expandable to 1.5GB with three 168-pin SDRAM DIMM sockets while the SY-7CM is expandable to 1GB SDRAM. Both boards also include an on board AC 97 CODEC to provide a software audio solution, and one audio/modem riser connector.

The SY-7VCA offers a number of expansion options with five 32-bit PCI slots, one 16-bit ISA slot and universal AGP slot with support for 1x/2x/4x mode graphics. The SY-7VCM features three 32-bit PCI slots, and an AGP slot with support to 4x mode.

All motherboards ship with a Symantec CD-ROM bundle that has a retail value of $150. It includes: Symantec Norton AntiVirus; Symantec Norton Ghost disk cloning software, and the Virtual Drive CD-ROM emulation application.

SOYO, Inc. is the U.S. subsidiary of SOYO Computer, Inc. Can someone comment on this, it's out of my league. I read this on JC's this morning.

Dual Athlons...closer than we think?

Was on AMDZone today, and had a look at the Shuttle's AI61 Slot A motherboard, so I clicked the image, looks like an ok motherboard, then I noticed that there are lines where important components are to be placed (slot a connector etc..), well, this board has etchings for 2 Slot A connectors, are these reused Slot 1 PCBs?, or do Shuttle know something we dont know????.

thanks if anyone can help,
