Novell today said it has teamed with telecommunications giant AT&T to bring wireless
access to its groupware software dubbed GroupWise.

Novell debuted a public test of the wireless version of GroupWise today using AT&T PocketNet
service, which lets people obtain information from corporate databases and email from the
screen of their wireless phones.

The new venture will deliver GroupWise messaging, calendaring
and workflow information through AT&T's PocketNet service, the
company said.

The new product is being demonstrated this week at Novell's
BrainShare user conference.

The move is the latest effort by Novell to add some flash to its
GroupWise product line. Novell has been waging a losing battle
against Lotus and Microsoft in the groupware market and hopes
such partnerships will help boost its position.

Existing GroupWise 5.5 Enhancement Pack customers can get
wireless access to GroupWise through AT&T PocketNet service by
going to Novell's Web site and downloading the free public beta of
GroupWise Wireless Access, which will be available after April 3.

AT&T PocketNet service provides users with flat-rate pricing using
the AT&T Wireless IP (Internet Protocol) network and the new
Mitsubishi MobileAccess T250 wireless Internet phone for a
monthly rate of $14.99.

Separately, Novell said it plans to soon launch versions of GroupWise for Sun Microsystems'
Solaris operating system and Linux.

Fred,

Toy personally likes to analyze the under-belly of the hotubs as I already have a good idea / vision how pleasant the topside would be if we have a great under-belly. :))

BUT - with DEMIN, Novell can sell the Sizzle to those that don't understand the difference between a pump and a hose - for those that think a 1" hose is as good as a 3" hose.
These CxOs of the world need to be given a view of what it would be like to have the deluxe model of Novell's HotTub in their organization. With DENIM, Novell can let these CxOs visualize the hot water pulsing over their bodies, the bubbles smothering their aches and pains, that cold glass of champagne available to them on the edge of the tub to soothe their fears, and the dim mood lights to let them relax. (wow - I'm getting hot under the collar here - guess I took this analogy too far ehh? - Harlequin Romance, Here I Come).

Point is that DENIM will show the customers a future with Novell's suite of technologies that will allow the problem plagued customer to better manage their legacy infrastructure (regardless of platform type). At the same time, DENIM will provide them with solid extensions to the e-Business communities. An e-business community whereby one cannot dictate nor control the other end of the transaction's technology direction (i.e. their partners may use NT, or Solaris, or S390, or Linux, or a PDA, or ....).

DENIM provides the customer a "Freedom to Focus" on their business needs. DENIM provides a model whereby the customer can be openly accepted into the e-Business world and not just to one particular clique OEM/Vendor's world of e-business (did I say Microsoft?).

DENIM is not based on all-new technology - in fact - DENIM is not even soley based on Novell technologies. DENIM is simply a harmonious view and message of what can be done with the technology already available and soon to appear.

Enough said from me. I dont say much unless it is something I get passionate about. So when you see me start talking - be afraid!

Cheers!
