I've been using Schwab for years( I love em).. Only had one problem so far, that was getting a order status.. Afterhour quotes are sometimes messed up, but I don't trade much afterhours.

Re:"Didn't Schwab send a letter to its customers recently apoligizing for poor service?"

chic,

They may have. The only mail that I open from Schwab are my statements and confirmations. With every trade I get a survey from JD Power that gets thrown out without being opened. The apology may have been lost in the shuffle.

The last couple of times that I traded on the phone the wait was horrific, at least 30 minutes. Not good when trying to buy options. They did however only charge me a commission as if I had traded on the web. Gee thanks, the option price goes up a dollar while on hold but I save ten bucks on the commission.
