There's also the inflation in public education costs. The average cost per pupil here is about $ 9,000 for grade school. A big part of the recent increase is special ed, which costs about $ 12-13,000 per pupil. The costs are clearly out of kilter with respect to the average household income.

The government should provide refundable tax credits for the purchase of high school and college diplomas over the net. Employers will then be able to test their potential employees by asking them to read their diplomas aloud. This will allow the educational system to concentrate on its core competence, teaching students to tolerate years of grinding, unrelenting incarceration, punctuated by periods of utter boredom.
