RDRAM cost difference:

I just priced two Dell Dimension XPS PC's. One T series and one B series. Made them IDENTICAL except for the memory type. The T comes with SDRAM , the B comes with RDRAM. I configured both systems with 128 MB.

B: $2499
T: $2289

For $210 you can have RDRAM instead of SDRAM.

If, however, you try for 256 MB, the additional 128 MB comes with an additional $480 difference.

I wonder if Dell is charging a premium for the second 128 just to have enough RDRAM's for more PC's.

If so, then I would expect the cost of the second 128 to drop sharply as soon as supply expands over the next 2-3 months.
