Not really Scrapps. Alcatel is one of the major companies that is stirring up trouble in the DSL world. They are supplying the Bells with a lot of equipment that is not Aware based. That in itself is no big deal. Every market has competition. The problem is the Alcatel equipment SBC is installing is at the remote sites where the CLEC's do not have a "right" to co-locate. That means they cannot install their G.Lite equipment at the Central office and use the line sharing ruling in their favor. SBC is using this technique to get their market share before the CLEC's can take over. If anything, this is stalling the G.Lite movement in these areas and taking business away from Aware customers. If SBC was using an Aware based product for this rollout, it wouldn't be that big of deal. Wherever there are Bells that do not use an Aware customer for their equipment, we need a competitor (i.e. a CLEC) to get the G.Lite equipment in their. Maybe I am only seeing one side of the story, but it does not look positive for Aware. That being said, this is only 1 Bell in the United States. There are other Bells and of course the international market. Like Aware has said, it is a huge market with plenty of opportunity. This situation does not alarm me at all. It simply keeps the publicity a little negative for a little longer. Once the G.Lite modems are in the store shelves and other Bells and CLECs are having major G.Lite deployments, we will see brighter days. Please give me feed back on my thoughts. I would love to see more pieces of the puzzle come together. Maybe I am putting too much emphasis on G.Lite and don't realize the ADSL market for Aware is big also. I just think the silver lining is the mass deployment of "plug and play" G.Lite modems.
