IMF revises world '99 growth forecast up to 4 pct
NEW ORLEANS, March 28 (Reuters) - The International Monetary Fund, in a steep upward revision to last year's World Economic Outlook, now expects the world economy to grow by four percent this year, a senior IMF official said on Tuesday.

Claudio Loser, who heads the IMF department responsible for Latin America, told a news conference that the strong global performance would help the economies of Latin America.

He expected growth of 4 percent in Latin America and the Caribbean, up from 0.3 percent in 1999.

The last World Economic Outlook, published in October last year, forecast global growth of 3.5 percent
