How much was the first DVD player or VCR for that matter?

I know, I know . . . that's why I acknowledged that prices will come down, and also said that it's a good start. Don't get your panties in a wad . . . :-)

But at the same time, don't expect CUBE to get anything on its bottom line until we get those babies rolling off assembly lines at high speed, and that won't happen until they reach a much lower price point.

DVD-R + PVR is the right combination: dump to disc for permanent archive. The cost of this combo is still much cheaper than early DVD-VR models, assuming DVD-R mirrors the economics of CD-R. Think how users watch vs. archive TV programs.

DVD erasible economics aren't as attractive and do not fit viewer habits.

I remember seeing ads for the first VCR (betamax) in 1976 for $900 USD in 1976 currency (during the Great Gas Shortage). DVD came out in 1996 around $500 or $600 ?
