good point Ken. I don't think I was very clear in my original reply... on a momemtum move of the underlying for legging in/out, I did mean to take the ask if buying and bid if selling. just last wk I did just this (and, as I said, a lot of praying), where I was the only volume on the 2 option series I was rolling. It was only 10 contracts each leg, but the prices were above $60 per (I forgot about the $10 and under rule or I wouldve thot twice before legging myself :-)
I picked my time and did better than splitting the B/A.
was it worth the risk? I don't know, I think I was bored at the time :-)

of course a lot of this depends on the underlying, etc. etc. it's often difficult to give opinions to a general strategy given the myriad of variations and conditions.

btw, I am not recommending legging in/out of positions
