Scumbria some significant info on Spitfire release at rbcomputing.com

This is a report on info AMD gave at a resellers conference. Some key points:
1. Desktop K6-2+ is really dead
2. AMD currently has .15 and .13 processors in the lab produced
3. EasyNow will make a second coming sometime in June. This new release should include PCMCIA slots and will be bundled with Windows ME.
4. HERE'S THE BIGGY - Spitfire will be out in April it will come out in 550, 600, 650, 700 versions. {YES, YES, YES} Motherboards will be another story. {OUCH, OUCH, OUCH}
5. New SIMD instructions will be added in late 2000 and 2001
which will handle double precision floating point numbers,
faster than the current FPU. {pre-Sledge timing surprises me}
6. AMD is "working closely with Microsoft and a pile of other vendors to ensure that when Sledgehammer is released, it will be taken advantage of.

There's a lot more interesting stuff there, take a look.

The socket A mobo situation is peculiar. Are vendors under NDA to not even annouce future products? Will OEM's use Slocket-A adaptors until low cost socket mobo's are available, or will AMD just delay the intro?

SCUMBria - Re: "I do like this however: AMD + 2 3/16
INTC - 5 3/8
After all, I am going to buy one share of INTC and I like the lower price ;^))."

Well, well, well !!

You finally get the first chance in MONTHS to post BOX SCORES in AMD's favor - and you jump on it like a pig in a mud slop !
