I have found a number of these new quarters in parking lots and streets (I take long walks). They don't survive being run over a few times and easily become terribly obliterated. It's a different alloy from the old 'silver' quarters with the copper nougat center.

When people realize the quarters can't survive normal wear they will 1) realize another scarcity has been created and become collectors (like coins that lose their dates quickly, eg buffalo nickels or liberty standing quarters) or 2) realize that not only has value gone out of stocks but also out of the currency and flock to something of more sustainable value.

It's one thing to pump out dollars without thinking but a poorly designed quarter could bring down a house of cards. It's a lot more visible, don't you think?
