let's talk about Dave since he doesn't appear to be around :-)

perhaps this is in an IRA (not it necessarily precludes one from writing NP's); if so, legging out on a downward move as I suggested is obviously out of the running.
also, some folks write CC's as an 'aftereffect'; flexibility in prices bot and written.

doing net orders in my experience is hit or miss if one is aggressive w/ the net. depends a lot on the broker and the situation at the time w/ the exchange. one reason I leg in/out at times. another is, on equities, I can buy one leg from one exchange and sell the other leg to another... sometimes, the exchanges seem oblivious as to what is happening w/ corresponding B/A on their sister quote machines.
