Lucent Technologies and Trillium Demonstrate Internet Phone On a Chip IP Solution

BUSINESS WIRE - March 29, 2000 13:22

SAN JOSE, Calif., Mar 29, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Next-Generation Multi-function IP Telephony Device Solution To Be Shown at Spring Voice on the Net 2000

Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) Microelectronics Group, the world leader in communications semiconductors, and Trillium Digital Systems, Inc., the leading provider of communications software solutions, will jointly demonstrate an integrated Internet Protocol (IP) telephony hardware/software solution at the Spring Voice on the Net 2000 show taking place this week in San Jose, Calif. Lucent's Phone-On-A-Chip(TM) IP Solution, including development kit and T-8301/02 chips, integrates multiple system-level functions, resulting in lower system costs and increased design efficiency and performance in business telephone equipment. Trillium's H.323 IP telephony software, with one of the industry's highest performance and smallest code sizes, is embedded into Lucent's Phone-On-Chip IP Solution.

Lucent's demonstration (Booth no.201) utilizes the Phone-On-A-Chip IP Solution and development kit, including keypad, liquid crystal display and other associated electronics, to make a complete telephone solution. Lucent's demonstration shows a bundled hardware/software package, including Lucent digital signal processor algorithms, board support package, VXworks(TM) Real Time Operating System, and Trillium's H.323 IP telephony software running on Lucent's development kit. Visitors to Lucent's booth will be able to make an IP telephone phone call using Lucent's development kit over the public switched telephone network (PSTN) through a gateway.

In its booth (no. 517), Trillium will demonstrate a voice call made with Lucent's Phone-on-a-Chip, using Trillium's protocol software H.323 stack, to the PSTN network connecting through an IP-PSTN gateway in Lucent's booth. Trillium is also showing a series of demonstrations that illustrate how its high-performance H.323 IP telephony software solution enables VoIP applications. Trillium's H.323 telephony software solution has achieved 1,100 call setups and teardowns per second running on Intel's 550 MHz Pentium III processor.

"We have made rapid progress in being able to show a working IP telephone development kit," said Caleb Strittmatter, strategic marketing director-Enterprise IP Telephony with Lucent's Microelectronics Group. "As a result of agreements with leading software vendors, such as Trillium, Wind River Systems and TelGen Corp., we have been able to quickly prove the fast time-to-market capabilities of a bundled solution. Visitors to either of our booths will learn how they can develop their own products off this highly integrated and complete system-on-a-chip platform."

"Lucent's Phone-On-A-Chip solution is a great example of how the integration of high-performance hardware and software solutions can accelerate deployment of VoIP technologies. IP telephones will be one of many next-generation Internet devices that address the growing demand for advanced communications services, and we are pleased that the features of our high performance H.323 solution, especially its small code size, facilitate the deployment of these products, " said Frank Morese, vice president - marketing, Trillium Digital Systems. "Trillium's record-breaking H.323 IP telephony software solution is just one of a broad range of software solutions that Trillium offers as part of its Software on Silicon(TM) initiative to harness the product development benefits of embedded solutions."
