ZDTV.com to Launch Broadband 100 Index Unique Index to Highlight Selected Technology and Internet Stocks SAN FRANCISCO, March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- ZDTV announced today that it will launch the ZDTV Broadband 100, a unique stock index designed to help investors understand and track the hottest sector of the Internet economy. The index is comprised of 100 publicly traded companies that are contributing to the development of broadband technologies and media convergence, two topics that ZDTV follows closely as an integrated TV and Web network. The index will launch April 3rd with a value of 1,000 and will be weighted by the market capitalization of each company listed in the index. The new index will be featured on the Web page of ZDTV's show, ``The Money Machine,' at zdtv.stockpoint.com/moneymachine/broadband.asp .
The ZDTV Broadband 100 Index will track stocks in each of the following areas of broadband development: Application/Service, Broadband Site Builders, Consumer Electronics, Content/Media, Infrastructure, Integrators/Middleware, Internet Media Networks, and Service Providers of Cable, DSL, Satellite, and Wireless. The index includes high-profile companies such as Cisco Systems, AOL, Microsoft, Sun Microsystems, Qualcomm, Time Warner, and NBCi, as well as smaller companies such as DSL.net and MP3.com.
The term broadband generally refers to the ``fat pipes' that provide high-speed Internet access, which in turn allow users to access rich media such as streaming video and Web radio. ``The ZDTV Broadband 100 Index will be an excellent way for users and investors to follow this emerging sector of the Internet economy,' said Greg Drebin, senior vice president of programming and production. ``Broadband technology has the power to change everything about the way we live, work and entertain ourselves, so this index will be key to tracking that future.'
In addition to the ZDTV Broadband 100 Index, ``The Money Machine' Web site will launch an array of stock market data and tools, including a ``Top 25 Stocks' section, which will highlight the biggest percentage gainers in a 4, 13, 26, or 52 week period. Other features include a detailed market summary, comprehensive news headlines, stock and mutual fund quotes, interactive charting, a portfolio tracking tool, a stock finder, a fund finder, and a stock splits calendar. ZDTV has contracted with Stockpoint, which provides online stock market data to its clients, to maintain and update the Broadband Index and other market data and investing tools, collectively dubbed ``ZDTV Stockpoint' on the site's homepage.
``The Money Machine,' hosted by financial journalists Carmine Gallo and Pam Krueger, shows viewers how to use the power of computers and the Internet to make, manage, and save money online. Airing live each weekday at 4:30 p.m. ET (1:30 p.m. PT), the show and Web page (www.zdtv.com/themoneymachine) give consumers the latest information on e-commerce, financial planning, on-line investing, travel bargains, and other money tools to help them make smart financial decisions.
