i agree a weak Yen would be good for both Japan and the US. as for monetary policy not having been given a chance, that's simply not true. you can't lower interest rates below zero. the BoJ has likewise begun to monetize govt. debt, has printed lots of Yen and bought lots of dollars. the liquidity is sloshing about in the money markets and finds no takers, except stock market speculators. they're pushing on a string, so obviously something different has to be tried.
