Dear Nihil: Shorting is not my bag and because of conditions totally unrelated to business that will substantially effect MSFT stock price I would not short it even if it was my inclination. I also do not believe in buying one stock as a hedge against another. If I like a company, I buy it, if I dont, I sell it. Try to have a decent portfolio of quality stocks and a few "long shots" for fun!! JDN

I wouldn't short MSFT now. The uncertainties of the outcome of the case are too uncertain at this point. However, if I were a holder of MSFT stock, or were inclined to buy some, I would go long SUNW to back it up. I think that's the best hedge.

Parenthetically, I still don't think the case will settle, but I'm not overwhelmingly convinced of this. Tough call at this point. I'm like 60 - 40 "no settlement."
