1. Options Play on Soaring Online Broker (AMTD)

Online brokers are a direct beneficiary of today's
skyrocketing NASDAQ as their customers flock to trade soaring
tech stocks. To play this trend, option expert Bernie
Schaeffer advises buying calls on Ameritrade Holding (AMTD -
$23.00). The online broker targets a broad market of self-
directed and value-conscious retail investors by offering
brokerage services at prices significantly lower that major
competitors.

Shares of Ameritrade are on the rise after rebounding off of
double-bottom support near $15. The stock spent the last
three weeks consolidating toward its 20-day moving average,
and shares bounced sharply last week. Schaeffer attributes
some of this bullish movement to renewed strength in the
broker/dealer sector. The AMEX Securities Broker/Dealer Index
has gained 40% since February 2000 and is now at record high
levels.

Though Ameritrade is riding high, Schaeffer sees record
numbers of investors betting against the firm. Short interest
rose by 14% last month to reach its highest level ever at
20.2 million shares. "With a short interest ratio of 6.1x the
stock's average daily volume, a short covering rally could
add momentum to the equity's recovery," Schaeffer says. On
March 23, 2000, Schaeffer recommended buying the August 15
call (TQAHC).
