Quad Band Memory (QBM) or Double Bus Rate ("DBR") is a technology that utilizes E-Bus to double the data rate transfer of any synchronous memory technology.

Kentron is in the final testing stages for demonstration of this technology to the industry. We anticipate broad reaching support from engineers and designers who wish to utilize commodity memory components in an application setting that far exceeds their current capability today and into the future.

Here is an example about why this is so important to you:

In the application of routers, the 100MHz frequency is not sufficient to handle packet transactions and feed the network processor's appetite for data. Serial in nature, the goal is to process packets and bytes at high rates. In a 680ns window, the router must process numerous instructions to be able to route the packet properly. You have a new cell every 680ns; at 100MHz, that is only 68 instructions to process and forward the cell. Technology today does not allow you to go to higher speeds because the DRAM does not exist or is not commercially available.

That is where QBM will help increase the number of instructions for the same given time. In an SDRAM environment using QBM, you can:

Achieve 400MHz data rates using a standard 100MHz bus and standard PC200 DDR chips

Achieve 500MHz+ data rates using a standard 133MHz bus and standard PC266 DDR chips

In a FLASH environment using QBM, you can utilize the 100MHz Synchronous Flash to achieve 200MHz data rates (comparable to the upcoming DDR SDRAM speeds).

This will become more and more important as wireless applications demand Flash memory for reliability but also require very fast data transmission. In the wireless revolution you can not afford to rely on traditional storage mediums such as hard drives ~ at the same time you cannot afford to take a back seat to your speed requirements.

The applications for QBM technology are enormous and include:

Routers
Servers
Laptops
Personal Computers
Medical Equipment, etc.
Anywhere the fast transmission of data is imperative, QBM offers a solution. This is a Kentron patent-pending technology. Kentron is currently working with several telecom leaders to implement this technology in new generation router systems.
