Hello Dan3 Re: Much of the credit for the stability that we've seen should probably go to NT SP6a, Matrox video drivers, Microstar 6167 and 6195 motherboards, and 3Com network drivers. I've yet to try NT on an Athlon system, the only experience I've had is Athlon 700 MHz/Win98 SE on an Asus K7M. We use ElCheapo NICs ($12.00) with great results. The first video cards I used where cheap ATI98 PCI cards that caused no problems (we had some laying around). Since then I've had the opportunity to try two of other video cards, the newest video drivers were used with both. The first was a 3dfx Voodoo 3000 PCI. The card did not have a fan on its video chip and the video card would overheat when in 3D mode (never over heated in 2D mode). If it was run with the case open to let the VooDoo get some air it would run stable all day in 3D mode! The Voodoo 3000 card was hot when one placed a hand near it. The same card would run in 3D mode all day inside a 200 MHz pentium so it looked like the 700 MHz Athlon was working the VooDoo 3000's tail off. The second card I used in the 700 MHz Athlon was a AGP Matrox G400 Max. This card comes with a fan and runs cool, fast and stable. It seems to generate less heat period. The G400 also has dual head so a second independent video output exists, this is a useful feature for some. I've never had a single problem using the G400 card, no BSDs, no hangups, its an amazingly stable card. It seems like you see a very stable system using Athlon running under NT and I see a very stable system using Athlon running under Win98. What's in common here??? How did Jim get an Athlon system to generate a BSD? I can't do it! Dan3, have you any experience using NT server on the Athlon platform or is you experience with NT client only? Kindest regards, CrazyMan
