Interesting commentary. I never thought of it that way but I think you're on to something.

While no one knows, I can share John Chamber's vision as articulated at Cisco's Vendors Day 1999. He expects Cisco's revenues to be in the range of $50B in the next 4 to 5 years.

JC has a track record for turning his visions into reality. I wonder what $50B sales translates to in terms of stock price?

Gary, Dennis, interesting perspective, we buy CSCO precisely because it morphs into the company we want it to be at the exact right time. It is never too early and never late. I believe CSCO times just when a market is about to hit tornado stage, and then snaps up the leading startups in that area. So in a sense CSCO rides each tornado, and joins the next one as it's starting. In a sense you can think of Cisco as a late state venture capital company providing professional management, rolling from one tornado to the next (or several at a time). Very exciting!!!

Dennis, RE: all this talk about csco keeping market share, losing market share, PE too high, etc, etc....seems rather mute. IMHO no one knows what csco, the company, will be in 2,3,4, or especially 5-10 years from now.....it seems like the company is constantly mutating or morphing into a new company as time goes on.......isn't that what we are paying for????.....i don't want to own the csco of 4 years ago ...i want to own the csco of the future.

btw, still trying to learn this stuff.

It seems to me that is the only rational justification that someone could make for buying CSCO at today's prices. I don't agree, but you make sense.
