No one at Novell has pulled together the appliance message

like they pulled together the 10 Zens message. I know I know try to name them and you win a cigar. But the fact of the matter is that Novell built its directory app message around Zenworks. And that worked with the analysts. It enabled them to understand Novell.

Drew is to speak on Friday. I'm hoping he will put out an appliance message.

The big pipe is the way to go. Every directory based app on top of edirectory/LDAP has a core that can be an appliance and each of these apps can scale dramatically if the core is an appliance.

Whether this is authentication or network file storage for Just-on or reverse proxy, Novell has the heavy metal to put in a plug and play network appliance.

Consulting can use these things, directory apps can use these things.

Its all up to Drew.

Hello zwolff,

I wanted to jump in and throw out some perspectives ...

Yes ... Drew has had a hard time eduacating people inside of Novell about his vision. They just don't seem to understand it. The management seemed to latch onto this "directory" concept and can't expand beyond it ...

Drew appears to be making progress, and he demoed a variety of "appliances" ...

They showed the core ICS, also some software enhancements which provided content filtering and modification. Examples were the "Akamaizer" which would dynamically modify content, on the fly, so that it would be compatible with Akamai's network.

He also showed the SSLizer, more commonly known as secureMe, and also a high-performance storage appliance called Aquarium.

All very cool!

> b) What is the projected revenue coming from ICS this Q?

This is my same question! Show me the money!

They *are* doing demos of using "ZEN for Networks" to manage Cisco routers ... it's very cool ...

> How about the corresponding AD schema for CSCO routers ..
> Is it ready?

I didn't see anything on this ...
