OpenLinux Users Can Now Access Applications Regardless of Platform
Caldera Systems, Inc., (Nasdaq:CALD) today announced the debut of OpenLinux eDesktop 2.4 -- a high performance Linux desktop for the Internet -- that includes the Citrix(R) Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CTXS) Independent Computing Architecture (ICA(R)) client.
The Citrix ICA client, in conjunction with Citrix MetaFrame(TM) application server software, enables OpenLinux eDesktop users to access any application. The client support provides access to any Windows, UNIX and Java applications and allows Linux users to access locally developed applications. With the ICA client, an OpenLinux eDesktop workstation can access any Windows, UNIX or Java application when connected to a server running Citrix MetaFrame or Citrix WinFrame(R) software. These two solutions provide end users the low cost and reliability of Linux with access to a wide range of applications. In fact, eDesktop can access UNIX and Windows server applications using the ICA client, even though it is not running on Linux servers.
