OT> Thanks for a morning chuckle, VanScott. . . That 1987 desert story gets even funnier when you hear all the personal stuff that went along with it. Message 13212134 Without going into too much personal detail. . .suffice it to say. . .when I crash landed in Palm Springs. . . I lost my car, I lost my job [couldn't commute 2 hrs each way], I lost my home back in Orange County and it would take more money than I had just to get any one of those back. . . not to mention that all I could do the first few days was utter single words. . .partial sentences took several days . . .so the next day after the accident my gorgeous model girlfriend of 6 months says to me, "you lost everything. . . so I'm leaving you, too." LOL!! Not sure I will ever understand her logic, but you must respect her honesty. LOL!! In response, I focused all my strength and ability to ask her for a proper explanation and to beg for a temporary reprieve. But with most of my marbles still rolling around in the desert, all I could muster was a, "Huh?" That day I gave new definition to the word 'loser'. Quickly, I got a job teaching college. . .directing and writing for a Disney style singing/dancing troupe, called "Celebration". . . as a staff engineer/producer at a recording studio. . .and writing, scoring and producing the music for the "Arabian Nights Pageant", which still plays at the National Date Festival in Indio every February. . .later starting my own production company/ recording studio. . .but for the time being. . . I stayed in a Motel 6 for about the first 2 months, when I wasn't sleeping in my rented car. . . or who knows where. Things turned in my favor rather quickly there, though. . just like I like it. . . major highs out of major lows . . and little in between. . . . . I stayed in the desert for 5 years. . . and though I have stayed elsewhere longer, I will always call Palm Desert / Palm Springs home. . .I return there annually. . .like the swallows to the Capistrano Mission. In fact, my wife and I were married by a lake dipped in flowers in Palm Desert with a fabulous view of the snow capped mountains. . .over Irish green grassy golf courses. . painted into a perfect blue sky. . . .and that marraige ceremony was a comic chapter all its own. Now if I could find my original condition red '66 Mustang Convertible I used to drive there. . . topless of course. . through the warm night air filled with the fragrance of night jasmine and orange blossom. . .all the way up to Vista Point to look down on the mass of lights that burn like tiny campfires in the desert heat. See! Money isn't everything. Rande Is
