P.S. What do you think about continued incarceration of those who've served their full sentences on the grounds that they'll like repeat offend? I believe they can do that here in Arizona for "sex crimes", something about declaring a person mentally ill and a danger.

Mentally ill is mentally ill. And if someone is diagnosed as such, and they have served prison time for being convicted of a sex crime, then I'm grateful that the state protects the law-abiding citizens by keeping such crazies locked up.

Several years ago the state of Oregon, in a surge of compassion (and perhaps to save tax dollars), released large portions of its "guests" in State mental institutions. One State women's mental institution was closed down completely. The area homeless population soon swelled to include lots of these folks. Some of them have turned up dead, victims of murder. Most people now realize that it was a big mistake to have let people walk out of the door who are mentally ill, and can't look after themselves.
