>>I own a Compaq PC and the hard drive died on the 366th day that I owned it. <<

I am a Mac guy (iMac and G3 450), but I built my own PC last year to run some apps. I will never buy a name brand PC. I slapped together an ATX motherboard PC for a total cost of about $700 (including the 17" monitor); a PC that Compaq would probably sell for $1400 or more. I used an OEM Dell Win98 disk from a friend's PC (don't tell Bill Gates).

If a component fries, I can just buy another cheap replacement. I've heard other horrible stories about Compaq's proprietary ways all too often.

As far as Sandisk and the name "CompactFlash" goes, I hope that the courts seriously don't give them the right to stop others from using variations of the word "Compact." This is just plain silly. Silly enough however, that I wouldn't be suprised if Compaq wins.

Ausdauer, re: "The next day I applied for a trademark ..." Thanks for the belly laugh! After two down days, I needed that.

And your "jingle" (ala Intel) concept is terrific.

Craig

PS I hope that they grant your trademark request :-)
