That one even made the tv news last night in Vancouver.It seems to be a continuous process...somewhere in the world...and presumably on lots of other planets.

I was thinking we could have named the thread
"HARMON.Y ON EARTH" but your first name isn't Yahoo, and anyway there doesn't seem to be much of it around.

Link between prehistoric genetics and volcanoes.

71,000 years ago, mankind came close to being wiped out by a 'volcanic winter'caused by an eruption of Mount Toba in Sumatra . The 'volcanic winter' lasted about six years. It was followed by 1,000 years of the coldest Ice Age on record. It brought widespread famine and death to human populations around the world. It also affected subsequent human evolution. No more than 15,000 people survived.

After this genetic bottleneck, better conditions returned. The human population was able to grow once more and develop the genetic diversity we see today.
