Network-1 Announces Intrusion Prevention Software for Lucent Technologies IP Address Management Servers Business Wire - March 30, 2000 08:16 WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 30, 2000--Network-1 Security Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ: NSSI), a leader in distributed intrusion prevention solutions for e-Business networks, today announced that it has commenced shipments of its CyberwallPLUS-SV software with unique capabilities to provide network security "hardening" functions for Lucent Technologies Inc.'s (NYSE: LU) QIP(R) IP address management servers running on Windows NT. In its most recent product release of CyberwallPLUS-SV, Rel. 5.2.2, Network-1 has added specially designed configuration templates for Lucent's industry-leading QIP, DNS (Domain Name Server) and DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) servers. A team from Lucent confirmed that the value-added software solution from Network-1 was properly defined and tested. Four templates are provided in CyberwallPLUS-SV for basic QIP configurations. The software is easily fine-tuned to a customer's specific configuration. A template is provided for the QIP management server, remote DNS server, and remote DHCP server. A template is also supplied for an integrated configuration where DNS and DHCP services are offered on the QIP management server. Security policies based on these templates will allow DHCP and DNS traffic from authorized clients to access the appropriate servers and allow QIP specific protocol traffic to flow unimpeded between the QIP management server and remote servers. All other unauthorized traffic is blocked by CyberwallPLUS-SV, protecting customers' critical infrastructure. Network-1's CyberwallPLUS product installs on Windows NT and Windows 2000-based servers to provide network access controls, protection against port scans, denial-of-service attacks, and a suite of intrusions. "The easiest way to negate a mission critical network is to kill the NT server that provides IP Management services to the network. This is typically accomplished through a `denial-of-service' attack, where packets are sent to the server in an attempt to flood the system, overload its memory and make it either shut down or freeze up," said Avi Fogel, President and CEO, Network-1 Security Solutions, Inc. "CyberwallPLUS-SV provides value-added security by protecting these critical servers that make networks tick. We expect joint customers to benefit from the enhanced network security they will receive from CyberwallPLUS-SV." As a server-embedded firewall, CyberwallPLUS-SV substantially hardens Windows NT/Windows 2000 servers and protects mission critical applications residing on them. By operating at the kernel level of a Windows NT/Windows 2000 server, CyberwallPLUS-SV provides intrusion prevention and rich network firewalling functions such as stateful inspection and detection, with very high performance. CyberwallPLUS-SV can also be distributed through numerous servers - allowing for high scalability and further optimization of performance. The software's central management application - CyberwallPLUS-Central - then enables system administrators to remotely control and monitor numerous installations from a central location. The application installs in minutes, applies rule changes dynamically without rebooting, and allows for local or remote management. Pricing and Availability CyberwallPLUS-SV embedded intrusion prevention and firewalling software is available immediately with prices starting at $0.50 per IP address. Lucent Technologies also provides to its enterprise and service provider customers a NSA and ICSA certified and integrated hybrid/firewall gateway solution called the Lucent VPN Gateway. The utilization of both products simultaneously offers customers the ability of deploying a multi-layered firewalling strategy. This level of enhanced security is required in environments where there is wide access for outsiders and insiders throughout the protected network, such as may be the case on e-Business sites and service provider networks.
