delmarbill- I'm pretty sure I read it off this thread. I think it was Noam, personally, that explained that the metro market is not going to want to pay for any long-haul DWDM product of which they have no use. Noam said MRV's "Coarse-DWDM" product is a neat solution because it strips off all the long distance stuff and therefore, is cheap. The metro market doesn't need long distances so I thought Noam's comments hit the nail on the head.

I don't know if you have been following the metro market much, but lately all the talking heads are coming out and saying, "Current metro DWDM products are too expensive for SPs to deploy. They might as well lay more fiber. DWDM won't happen nearly as fast in the metro market. etc.." Remember the explosion of metro-mania about 8 months ago? This kind of stuff always happens. Reality always follows hype.

So I thought it was kind of neat that Noam had already guessed this was going to happen months ago and was working on what I thought was some kind of propritary DWDM product, C-DWDM is how I thought it was referenced. But I guess CWDM makes more sense. I probably remember it incorrectly.

I'm sure it's upstream somewhere. I did a quick search for it and couldn't find it. Sorry. But the above generally describes what was said back then, and what we're hearing now. If you find the PR or article, please post. I would like to review it again. Thanks. -MikeM(From Florida)
