RESEARCH ALERT - Dell reiterated

NEW YORK, March 30 (Reuters) - Bear Stearns and Credit Suisse First Boston reiterated on Thursday their respective buy and strong buy ratings on Dell Computer Corp. (DELL.O).
-- On Wednesday, Dell said its chief financial officer Thomas Meredith would become a managing director of its investment arm Dell Ventures. He will be replaced by James Schneider, the company's senior vice president of finance.

-- Bear Stearns analyst Andy Neff said near-term business trends appear on track and expect Schneider to provide an update on the company's initiatives to capture the growth of the Internet.

-- CSFB analyst Michael Kwatinetz said, "This move should not come as a surprise since Dell has continued to elevate the roll of Dell Ventures as a part of the company's overall strategy."

-- Views Schneider's promotion as "a strong positive."

-- Said Dell appears to be "on track to meet or beat our $7.1 billion revenue forecast and $0.16 EPS estimate, and we don't believe this announcement should be interpreted to the contrary."

-- Dell shares closed at 53-13/16 on Nasdaq on Wednesday.
