STRATOS GLOBAL CORP - Introduces IP End-to-End Solutions for Remote Areas

Toronto, Ontario, Mar. 30, 2000 (Market News Publishing via COMTEX) -- Stratos Global Corporation announced that the Company, though its subsidiary Nova-Net Communications, will now provide packaged IP (Internet Protocol) communications solutions for remote areas extending data collection and reporting capabilities to areas not previously reached before. This is made possible through the combination of enhanced network connectivity from IBM in combination with a new "Director" series of IP data collection products from ARCOM and an array of communications solutions from Stratos.

Nova-Net has partnered with Arcom Control Systems as the exclusive worldwide fixed satellite provider of this new data delivery solution which also uses IBM's new MQSeries Integrator Version 2, a middleware message broker providing seamless data collection, storage and transmission to the customer's business application.

For remote applications Stratos offers a choice of communications solutions which can integrate a variety of fixed satellite services including VSAT, Globalstar, Inmarsat or LandSat(R) (AMSC) satellite services. Field data such as tank levels, temperature measurements, flow data and meter-reading information is collected by Arcom's "Director" product platform from the remote location and transmitted to a Nova-Net hub, where the information is published to an MQSI data broker. From there, IBM's industry-leading MQSeries messaging system carries the data directly to your business application. Data delivery is completely event driven, thereby preventing unnecessary data accumulation or transmission.

"This new IP solution will enhance our network capabilities allowing NovaNet to offer a new end-to-end solution as well as broaden our customer base", said David Christenson, vice-president & general manager, Nova-Net Communications. "There is a tremendous backlog of customers requiring IP capable networking solutions".

"Our ability to translate a customer's specific need to collect information from remote assets into an IP communications solution allows us to serve a variety of customers with differing data requirements", stated Derek Woods, president and CEO of Stratos. "Our customers are anxious to deal with a communications provider that provides them with the latest satellite services in combination with the latest in wireless IP applications. Our ability to focus on those needs has enabled us to become a market leader in this area."

By working with Arcom and other applications and network providers Stratos brings together seamless end-to-end IP solutions to and from remote locations. Stratos provides customers operating in remote locations with a variety of wireless IP, data, and voice solutions through a range of newly emerging andestablished communications technologies.
